KITSON TOWN, St Catherine — Drawing on the church for guidance, Kitson Town resident Krisan Thomas is working steadfastly to achieve her goals while harbouring plans of paving the way for others in her rural community.
The 21-year-old Jonathan Grant High School past student, who has bagged 10 subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level, is now enrolled in the management studies programme at The University of the West Indies.
Though having to put pursuing her first choice of a law degree on hold due to financial challenges, she is mindful of the immense progress that she has already made in her young life and is undaunted.
Thomas said that she is the first member of her small community of Byles in Kitson Town and her immediate family to have excelled beyond secondary education.
Earlier this month she was recognised for her dedication to the Kitson Town Seventh-day Adventist Church where she is a member, and for her involvement in youth leadership.
Thomas was lauded for her “display of discipline, humility, urgency in pursuit of education, and unending care for others”.
The award was the result of proceeds from the recently published book Triumphs by journalist Garfield Angus, a native of Kitson Town.
